Description

A spooky and fun chocolate cake with a graveyard theme, perfect for Halloween parties or family fun. It’s easy to make and fully customizable with Halloween-themed decorations!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (or your favorite homemade chocolate cake recipe)
  • Eggs, oil, and water (as specified on the cake mix box)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 24 tablespoons of milk (adjust for consistency)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 packs of chocolate cookies (Oreos work great!)
  • 1 pack of candy bones
  • 1 pack of gummy worms (optional)
  • Plastic spiders (optional)
  • Small candy pumpkins (optional)
  • Piping gel or edible markers (optional for ‘RIP’ tombstone messages)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box (usually 350°F or 175°C).
  2. Prepare the cake mix as directed, adding eggs, oil, and water. Bake in a 9×13-inch pan.
  3. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
  4. Make the frosting: Cream together the softened butter and cocoa powder, then add powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
  6. Crush the cookies into crumbs and sprinkle them generously over the frosted cake to create a ‘dirt’ effect.
  7. Decorate with cookies to create ‘tombstones,’ and add candy bones, gummy worms, and other fun Halloween decorations.
  8. Optionally, use piping gel or edible markers to write ‘RIP’ on the tombstones.

Notes

This cake is fun to customize! You can switch up the cake flavor, make it gluten-free, or use different Halloween decorations based on your preference.
