Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup (90 g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ teaspoon table salt
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons (17 g) cornstarch
- Sprinkles or colored sugar for decorating (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar for about 5 minutes until pale and fluffy.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and salt until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and cornstarch. Gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing on low until just combined.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions, roll into balls, and place on baking sheet 1–2 inches apart.
- Flatten each cookie with a fork dipped in powdered sugar. Decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar if desired.
- Bake for 12 minutes until cookies are set but still pale. Cool completely on the baking sheet.
Notes
Make sure to whip the butter and sugar thoroughly for the lightest texture. Use room-temperature butter and avoid overmixing the dough to keep cookies soft and crumbly.
