Description
This Old Fashioned Easy Apple Crisp is warm, buttery, and spiced just right — the perfect fall dessert with a crisp topping and tender apples underneath. It’s simple, nostalgic, and always a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
Scale
- For the Spiced Apples:
- 6 golden delicious apples, peeled and chopped (about 6 to 7 cups)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1½ teaspoons lemon juice
- For the Crisp Topping:
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- ¾ cup old fashioned oats (quick oats work too)
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of kosher salt
- ½ cup cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter an 8×8-inch baking dish or spray with non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine chopped apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Stir to coat evenly. Spread into prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold diced butter and use a pastry cutter, forks, or hands to create pea-sized crumbs.
- Sprinkle topping over apples and gently pat to level. Bake for 40–50 minutes, until topping is golden and apples are bubbling.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
Chop apples evenly for consistent baking. Keep butter cold for a crumbly topping. For tartness, use Granny Smith or mix apple varieties. Add a handful of chopped nuts for crunch, or a pinch of nutmeg for extra spice.
