Description
Crispy, sticky, and sweet-savory tofu coated in a garlicky honey glaze — this family-friendly dish tastes like takeout but is easy enough for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 14 to 16 ounces extra-firm tofu (pressed and cubed)
- ½ cup cornstarch
- ¼ cup soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- ¼ cup honey (or maple syrup/agave for vegan)
- 4 to 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ cup neutral oil for frying
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Sliced green onions, for garnish
Instructions
- Press tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut into bite-sized cubes.
- Coat tofu in cornstarch until evenly covered.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and sesame oil.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry tofu in batches, turning until golden brown on all sides. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Wipe out most of the oil, leaving a thin layer. Pour sauce into pan and simmer for 2 minutes until glossy.
- Add fried tofu to the sauce, tossing gently to coat. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot.
Notes
Use extra-firm tofu and press it well for best results. A hot pan ensures crispiness. Add a splash of lime juice at the end for brightness. Air fryer version: cook at 400°F for 15 minutes, shaking halfway.
