Description
Golden Milk, also known as Haldi Doodh, is a traditional Indian drink made with turmeric, milk, and warming spices. Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, it’s soothing, cozy, and deeply rooted in Ayurvedic traditions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup milk (dairy or plant based)
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 pinch black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ghee or coconut oil
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger or ginger powder (optional)
- Sweetener to taste (honey or maple syrup)
Instructions
- Add milk to a small saucepan.
- Whisk in turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, and ginger.
- Warm on low to medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes. Do not boil.
- Turn off the heat. Whisk in ghee or coconut oil until it melts.
- Taste and add sweetener if you want.
- Pour into a mug and drink warm.
- Texture tip: Whisk often while it heats so the spices stay mixed.
Notes
Add a pinch of black pepper and fat like ghee or coconut oil to increase the absorption of curcumin from turmeric. For a smoother cup, strain when using fresh turmeric. Great as a bedtime drink due to its warming and caffeine-free nature.
