Description

Soft, chewy gingerbread crinkle cookies with cozy spices and a sweet powdered sugar coating. Perfectly festive and simple enough for any level of baker, they’re a must for your holiday dessert tray.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Cover and chill the dough for at least 2 hours.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough and roll into balls.
  8. Coat each dough ball generously in powdered sugar.
  9. Place on prepared baking sheet, spacing evenly.
  10. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the cookies have spread and cracked.
  11. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill dough thoroughly for defined crinkles. Use fresh spices for bold flavor. Roll generously in powdered sugar for a bright crinkle finish. Avoid overbaking to keep cookies soft and chewy. Variations like orange zest or chocolate chips are great additions.
