Description

This Cut Out Sugar Cookie Dough is my go-to recipe every holiday season. It’s soft, reliable, never spreads, and perfect for decorating. Whether you’re baking with kids or prepping festive cookies, this dough makes every batch a joy to create.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs and vanilla. Mix until fully combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  5. Divide and chill the dough for at least 2 hours.
  6. Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to ¼–½ inch thickness.
  7. Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutters.
  8. Place on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake at 350°F for 7–10 minutes.
  9. Let cookies cool before decorating.

Notes

Keep the dough cold to prevent spreading. Don’t over-flour your surface, and bake until just pale for soft cookies. This dough freezes well for up to two months.
