These chewy and festive chocolate peppermint cookies are the ultimate holiday treat, combining cool minty peppermint with rich, melty chocolate.

- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition, then mix in peppermint extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips and crushed candy canes.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto baking sheets, leaving 2 inches of space.
- Bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are soft.
- Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra peppermint flavor, increase peppermint extract to 2 teaspoons. Chill dough for 30 minutes if too soft. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze dough balls up to 3 months.
