Description
Chocolate covered strawberries are an easy, fun, and elegant treat that’s perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re making them for Valentine’s Day, a bridal shower, or a casual family gathering, these strawberries add a touch of magic to any dessert table.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds fresh strawberries, washed and completely dry
- 12 ounces chocolate chips or candy melts (dark, milk, white, or a combo)
- 2 teaspoons shortening (only if using chocolate chips)
- Optional toppings: mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, crushed nuts, cookie crumbs, freeze-dried fruit
- Extra chocolate for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Wash and dry the strawberries completely. Any moisture will prevent the chocolate from sticking.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, add chocolate chips or candy melts. If using chocolate chips, mix in shortening. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each until smooth.
- Hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it into the chocolate, swirling gently to coat. Let excess chocolate drip off.
- While the chocolate is still wet, roll the berry in toppings or sprinkle them on.
- Place dipped strawberries on parchment or wax paper and let them set at room temperature.
- If desired, drizzle extra melted chocolate on top of the strawberries.
- Let the strawberries set until firm before serving or storing.
Notes
Make sure the strawberries are completely dry before dipping, as moisture will prevent the chocolate from sticking. For a glossy finish, Ghirardelli melting wafers work well.
