Ingredients
Scale
- For the Brown Butter Crust:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (cut into pieces)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- For the Pecan Pie Filling:
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 3 cups chopped pecans
- Optional: flaky sea salt for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
- Melt butter in a light-colored skillet over medium heat, stirring until golden brown and nutty (about 5–8 minutes). Transfer to a heat-safe bowl and let cool 10 minutes.
- Stir in sugar, water, vanilla, and salt. Mix in flour and cornstarch until smooth. Press dough evenly into prepared pan.
- Bake crust for 15 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
- In the same pan, combine maple syrup, brown sugar, butter, and cream. Heat gently until butter melts and sugar dissolves.
- Remove from heat, cool 5 minutes, then whisk in eggs and fold in chopped pecans.
- Pour filling over warm crust and spread evenly. Sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
- Bake 25–28 minutes, until set but slightly soft in center.
- Cool completely before slicing into bars.
Notes
Let the bars cool fully before slicing for clean cuts. Use a light skillet for browning butter to avoid burning. Bars can be made ahead and freeze beautifully.
