Description

A comforting, one-pot American classic made with ground beef, elbow macaroni, and a rich tomato sauce—perfect for weeknight dinners and picky eaters.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces elbow macaroni
  • Salt for the pasta water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 14 ounces diced tomatoes, fire-roasted
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional but recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with generously salted water and bring to a boil. Add elbow macaroni and cook for 7–8 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside without rinsing.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 4–5 minutes until soft and golden. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook for 7–10 minutes until fully browned. Drain excess grease, leaving a bit for moisture.
  4. Add diced green bell pepper and cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly softened.
  5. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste until fully combined. Add Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar if using. Simmer for a few minutes to blend flavors.
  6. Add cooked pasta to the sauce and stir gently to coat. Cook together for 3–5 minutes to let flavors meld.
  7. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra depth, use fire-roasted tomatoes and don’t skip the parsley garnish. Cook pasta slightly under for best texture. Customize with other vegetables or cheeses to make it your own.
